Sunlight in March

The Innocence Mission--one of my all-time favorite bands (I've been a fan since the age of 15)--just released a new album yesterday: We Walked in Song. Once a upon a time, I penned a brief review of their previous album, which was posted online in the days before I started this little blog. I can't say enough about the spare beauty of their music, with lyrics that tap into the literary influences of Eudora Welty, William Maxwell, and Gerard Manley Hopkins (among others).

Give a listen to "Into Brooklyn, Early in the Morning". Fragments of "Brotherhood of Man," "Lake Shore Drive," and older favorites "Tomorrow on the Runway" and "You Are the Light" can be found here.

that "brief review" was pretty damn good! I'm looking forward to hearing their new one.

Thanks, Brook! Yes, the bits I've heard sound wonderful. But what's maddening is that it's not only this one. There are also new releases by Joseph Arthur, Tori Amos, Lucinda Williams, Jesse Sykes, Patty Griffin, Wilco, Son Volt, and Rosie Thomas that I have no way to listen to, but for the clips and tracks I can pick up online...

yes, this is a packed year for new music releases. possibly too much for the financially (or locationally) challenged!

I wish I had known that Jessy Sykes was someone worth attention. she(?)he(?) opened up for Sparklehorse a few weeks ago and I skipped it. :-0
